The Miiraku area is located in the northwestern part of Fukue Island.
The town consists of the entire Miiraku Peninsula, located in the northwest of Fukue Island, and Saga Island, which floats in the sea to the west.
It is a place of great historical and cultural significance, and as far back as the Manyo period, it was the last port of call in Japan for Japanese envoys to the Tang Dynasty, and was a transit point for exchange with Chinese culture.

地形的には、町境に連なる山地と富江半島に大別されます。富江半島は火山の噴火でできた溶岩台地で、最も標高の高い只狩山（84m）を除けば平均海抜20m以下の平坦な田畑地帯になっていて、溶岩トンネルの｢井坑」（い あな）や「勘次が城（かんじがしろ）」と呼ばれる倭寇根拠地の石塁遺跡が有名です。 「五島彫り」という独自の加工技術も秀逸な特産品・サンゴのほかにも、地ものの新鮮な魚を使った蒲鉾や塩、五島牛・五島豚、それに糖度の高い中玉トマト・五島ルビーなどが生産され、海の幸・山の幸に恵まれています。
